The 355 certainly deserves more than a 3.55 rating.
The new espionage film by director Simon Kinberg, known for his work with the X-Men franchise and mysteries such as Murder on the Orient Express, features an all-star lineup with actors such as Sebastian Stan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Jessica Chastin.
And move over, James Bond, because this time the ladies are in charge.
The movie’s premise features CIA agent Mason “Mace” Browne, played by Chastin, and her partner Nick, portrayed by Stan, as they try to recover a piece of technology that has the capability to override any digital security system and overtake electronic devices.
During this quest, Chastin’s character teams up with elite agents from other countries, including expert hacker Khadijah (Nyong’o), German agent Marie (Diane Kruger), Chinese secret agent Lin Mi Shang (Fan Bingbing), and Columbian psychiatrist Graciela (Penelope Cruz).
Different languages are spoken regularly, giving the film a more realistic feel than an English-dominant movie. However, some reviewers berate this choice, claiming it to be an attempt to appear “woke”. While that is a possibility, it’s more likely the director wanted to add a layer of realism to the plot, allowing national languages to be featured while the characters are in that respective country.
Overall, the fast-moving plot and visually eye-catching scenes make this movie a fun watch. Featuring intense action sequences, gripping espionage, and epic betrayals, The 355 has all the makings of a perfect spy flick.
