Ya gotta stay positive.
The battling Beaver Bobcats boys soccer team continued their rebuilding season losing to Blackhawk 2-0 two weeks ago September 19. Two days later, September 21, the team fell to Ambridge 3-0, followed by an especially devastating loss to West Allegheny, losing 8-0 September 24.
Sophomore Krystof Purtell commented on the especially heavy West-A defeat.
"We all expected to lose, but not by that much," Purtell lamented.
After that, the team played an out-of-section match against Neshannock September 26, winning 5-0, making this their first victory of the season—and fitting for their senior night celebration.
While seemingly monumental for the team, junior Jonathan Suhayda had a differing opinion.
"I mean, it was nice to win, especially as a quick relief after all our losses, but in reality, they were a non-section single-A school, so the result didn’t really matter since it didn’t affect our chances of making playoffs," Suhayda said.
The team began October with a loss to Moon 5-0, followed by a tie 1-1 against Obama Academy October 3 at home.
At this point, the team is out of playoff contention, but this development was not necessarily discouraging to Coach Scott Hazuda.
"We’ve got a very young team, so the goal is to keep getting better despite having a disappointing record," Coach Hazuda said.
The players aren’t discouraged by their record either.
"Coach told us that no matter what happens, we are going to push through. So, I guess our strategy is to never give up. If we just give up and dread our losses, then it makes the rest of the season miserable," said Suhayda.
Looks like the team will stay positive until the very end.
