Is a winning season in the Bobcat volleyball team’s future?
Junior and team captain Chloe List said, “We are a young team, but we have really come together and became a good team. I love playing with these girls.”
The Cats currently sit on a team record of seven wins and four losses.
Beaver Area has defeated Riverside twice, Beaver Falls, Neshannock, Laurel, Elwood City, and Mohawk.
Along with many wins the Bobcats have fallen to Quaker Valley, Blackhawk, and Shenango twice.
The Shenango games were their only section losses, resulting in these games being the only matches that actually affected the Bobcats’ chance at being section champs once again.
Beaver Area was the 2020 section champion and made the playoffs last season in 2021.
Head coach Suze Pollins said, “Our biggest goals [this season] are to make sections, which is hard because we are 2A, and get better every day.”
And with the Bobcats’ current record this goal may be in the girls’ future.
The Bobcats hosted the Junior Varsity Carlee Houghtelin memorial tournament October 1.
This tournament allowed the JV players to get some needed playing time and crush the competition. The Bobcats swept the competition earning a first-place medal.
Beaver Area is currently ranked seventh in the AA volleyball WPIAL rankings.
Sophomore and team captain Zoe Ringer was also named one of four Beaver County Times AA volleyball players of the week the week of September 26.
Ringer stated, “We are really young but we have come a long way, and are just starting to click. I have so much fun on and off the court with these girls!”
While the Beaver team faced problems in the past regarding their team unity, they have come together and are working less as individuals and more as a team—a winning team with a shot at a long post-season run.
