It’s pretty incredible what some people can do with a camera and a little editing.
To make a business out of it on your own is even more special. Senior Kira Figgins has done all of this, and her work is quite impressive.
Figgins started enjoying photography and taking pictures of her friends in eighth grade. It started as a hobby but since then it has evolved into a business.
Figgins recounted, “I started taking pictures of my brother playing soccer and really enjoy it, so I figured I’d keep taking more pictures.”
Figgins now takes pictures of her friends and willing customers for senior photos, head shots, or family cards. This not only is a great way for her to show off her work, but also to gain publicity.
Samples of her work can be found on Instagram @kira.figgins where she shares senior pictures, staged pictures, animal photos, landscapes, and candid pictures.
Figgins’s photography skills are quite advanced, but she is already planning on making her skills even better. She currently takes college classes, along with her high school classes, at the Community College of Beaver County including digital imaging and a digital photography where they focus on Photoshop software, lighting, and camera work.
“I chose to take classes at CCBC because we don’t have any classes at Beaver for that, and because it’s senior year I wanted to learn more about what I want to do instead of taking random classes in high school,” Figgins started.
That’s not all—Figgins plans on attending a four year university to study graphic design in hopes of working for a big company someday. However, she is still undecided on that university.
Figgins added, “I want to be able to create new things with my talents in picture taking and graphic design.”
