Beaver Area High School’s top seniors were honored with a breakfast for students with a grade point average of 4.0 or above.
At this breakfast May 13 co-valedictorians for the class of 2022 were announced. While there is often only one student awarded the title, this year Ryan Kenney and Krystof Purtell finished their senior years with matching GPA’s and therefore will share the honor.
Purtell shared, “I’m extremely excited to share the title with Ryan. I think we both set out to achieve this [goal] when we started high school, so for us to basically max-out Beaver’s course load was pretty cool. Also, I think our success is a testament to our Sts. Peter and Paul [elementary] school education. Our teachers there set us on the right path for high school.”
“After taking 13 AP classes and spending countless hours working on homework, lab reports, and papers receiving the valedictorian honor is so rewarding. I am even more excited to be co-valedictorian with Krystof. We’ve been friends since kindergarten and have challenged each other to work harder and push our limits, so the fact that we both are top of the class is awesome. My only hope is that we can inspire future students to take as many APs as we did and to take them as early as freshman year just as we did,” Kenney stated about the accomplishment.
Prior to the breakfast, guidance secretary Mrs. Terri Belanger exclaimed, “I’m very excited to celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s senior class!”
The evening of May 18 the school district also recognized the numerous students selected to receive Beaver Area Education Foundation scholarships with an invitation-only awards ceremony.
The recognized students also are invited to march in Beaver’s Memorial Day parade with the Beaver Area Education Foundation May 30.
Congratulations to these high achieving seniors!
