With Christmas right around the corner, the Beaver Area Choirs are preparing to showcase their holiday spirit and talent in a concert.
Mark your calendars for December 20 at 7 p.m. when each Beaver Choir will perform a holiday repertoire that will be sure to entertain. Women’s Ensemble and Concert Choir are the groups taking the stage after months of practice and preparation.
Both of these choirs are offered electives at Beaver Area High School, and they spend their class periods rehearsing for their musical showcases: the Holiday and Spring Concerts.
Since they only have two concerts a year, the music students are enthusiastic about their upcoming performance.
Sophomore Keira Watkins shared, “I’m very optimistic about our upcoming concert, because it’s our first one of the year. The first concert is always the most exciting.”
Watkins is a talented member of both Women’s Ensemble and Concert Choir, so she has to learn twice the pieces for the concert.
Watkins stated, “being a member of both choirs has been difficult but so much fun. You make so many friends and learn so much when you get to be a part of both.”
Mrs. Susan Metelsky, the Beaver Area Choirs director, has taught each of the holiday pieces to the students and is conducting at the performance. Elementary music teacher Mrs. Beth Damesimo will provide the accompaniment on the piano, and for one special performance, Beaver Area Band will play for a combined choir piece.
Senior Anastasia Votilla exclaimed, “I’m so glad that my last winter concert will be joined by other choir members and the band as we all perform together! It’s a wonderful feeling that all of us will work together to celebrate this Christmas season. All of us have been practicing since the start of school, and I expect the concert will be perfect. As always, there will be the subtle friendly competition between the band and choir as they try to outperform each other!”
Come feel the holiday spirit and support your Beaver Area Choirs!
