The boys soccer team was looking to build on the early success this season as section play started to intensify.
The Bobcats continued their winning ways against Elwood City September 12 when they won 9-2. Senior Tyler Buzard and sophomore Anthony Furda led the way with two goals each.
Next up for the Bobcats was an away game against their section rivals Central Valley September 14. In a hard fought match the Bobcats fell just short 3-2 with Furda and sophomore Shane Ebbitt scoring the Bobcat goals.
The boys had another tough test September 19 as they traveled to Avonworth. After jumping out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a Furda goal, the Bobcats were unable to hang on as the game wore on and fell to the Antelopes 4-1.
The Bobcats looked to bounce back against Riverside September 21 which was also the Bobcats’ senior night. The boys’ five seniors, Buzard, Anthony Mrkonja, Joey Pruszenski, Gabriel Forcella, and Kapia Kabongo, were recognized before the game. The boys picked up the win 3-0 with goals scored by Furda, freshman Ryan Perez, and junior Seth Kullen.
Another tough test was in store for the Bobcats as they hosted Quaker Valley September 24. Despite a valiant effort, the Quakers got the best of the Bobcats and won 3-0.
“It was tough, but we came together as a team to finish out the first half [of the season],” said Mrkonja.
The Bobcats are looking to keep pushing in the second half of the season as they strive towards then playoffs with a 5-4-1 record.
