After a long unwanted Covid-induced break, the Lady Cats start back with huge wins.
January 11, Bobcats girls basketball team faced the Montour Spartans where they destroyed the Spartans 58-31. They were excited to be back on the court and be able to play the game that they love.
“It was really exciting to finally be back and playing after about a monthlong break. Definitely nerve wracking, but still very exciting,” explained senior Maddi Weiland.
The Cats went on to defeat the Quaker Valley Quakers 40-37 January 14. Everyone knew that this was going to be a tough game because Quaker Valley was said to be one of their toughest games alongside the Blackhawk Cougars.
“It was a competitive battle between two veteran teams. We definitely could’ve played better collectively, but sometimes things don’t always go our way, especially on the road. It was a hard fought win and we will be ready for them the second time around,” stated senior Kenzie Weiland.
“It's always harder to play on the road, especially with their court being smaller, but we ground it out and played hard the whole time,” added senior Anna Blum.
January 16, the Bobcats went on to play the Penn Hills Indians where they again emerged victorious, 37-30.
“[The Indians] are a good team, but we fought hard until the very end and pulled out a win,” explained senior Emma Pavelek.
“We struggled a little bit offensively, but we adjusted towards the end and won a tough game on the road. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters,” added Maddi Weiland
Overall the Lady Cats are having an amazing season even with all the obstacles that COVID has thrown at them.
“Well, we won all three games this week, so that was a positive. Our defense has continued to be our strength as we have yet to give up more than 40 points in a game. Offensively, we’re making strides but still searching for consistency. Hopefully, as the season goes, we’ll continue to get better at both ends of the court and hopefully keep winning games as well,” stated longtime coach Greg Huston.
They next play the Hopewell Vikings at home January 21 where they hope to emerge with yet another Bobcat victory.
