Join Wendy Dunlap and fight for your right to finance (your college education).
As many of us upperclassmen struggle to attend (or more likely forget about) the FAFSA night organized by our guidance counselors, English teachers Mrs. Heather Bixler and Ms. Aimee Firmani brought forth another opportunity to learn more about the wonders of college financial aid.
Wendy Dunlap from PHEAA (Penn Higher Education Assistance Agency) will be running a Zoom session during the PSAT day October 24.
Rather than being in school, October 24 seniors will be able to choose from a list of alternate activities, one of which will be the spectacular FAFSA Zoom run by Dunlap.
Dunlap, who some may recognize, also hosts the FAFSA Nights that our counselors organize.
Dunlap has been advocating financial literacy to schools for over ten years as well as working on the Junior Jumpstart event near the end of past school years.
The purpose of this week’s zoom session is to help students understand the process and importance of applying for financial aid and consequently college applications.
This zoom session should be attended by every student who wants to apply for college—prior to applying for scholarships.
Part of Dunlap’s presentation touches on what happens after you’ve been approved for financial aid—something most of us forget to think about.
Dunlap also provides students with other opportunities to get college money—such as grants—beyond FAFSA.
As counselor Mr. Brandon Ambrose says, “Every student who is going to college is going to go through the financial aid process, so it’s important to know what you’re doing.”
And sessions such as these provide that valuable knowledge.
