October 21, the A.P. Art class took a field trip to Edinboro University for the annual Edinboro Art day.
Students watched a demonstration of an art technique, and then participated in a related workshop. The university also supplied them with application fee waivers, university information, and lunch.
Mrs. Karen Steffes, the head of Beaver Area High School’s Art department, graduated Edinboro in 1977; however, this was the first year that she took the Art Class to the event at her alma mater.
“You know what I really liked was taking [students] back to my old alma-mater and seeing my art students work where I had worked,” Steffes said about her favorite part of the day.
Most Beaver Area students signed up for printmaking, a class which Steffes took when she attended the university. Students were able to make their own custom t-shirts with prints created by Edinboro students.
Senior Noah Reagan also went on the trip, but opted to participate in a workshop on animation where he and others worked on creating flowing water. Kayla Phung, a sophomore, also took a different route and learned about forensic drawing.
Laenee McCoy, one of the six A.P. Art students in attendance, stated her favorite thing was, “getting to experience art in college and its resources.”
After the demonstrations and workshops, Mrs Steffes and her students walked around the campus before getting boxed lunches. While at lunch they were given the opportunity to hear from current students and to ask any questions they might have about the school.
