Beaver Area Baseball hits the major leagues . . . or at least a chance to play at a major league stadium.
The Bobcats will face Ringgold High School in the Pirates High School Baseball Classic at PNC Park Saturday, April 22, a match that many Beaver Area athletes and fans are excited about.
“I’m very excited to play at PNC Park; I think it’s a great team experience, something I’m going to think of for the rest of my life,” said player senior Antonio Petrella
Beaver Area last participated in the Pirates High School Baseball Classic in 2012 when they played against Greensburg Central Catholic.
“I had connected with the Pirates in 2021 about possibly playing at PNC Park. They shared they had a HS baseball classic but had not promoted it due to the pandemic and they would keep us in mind for 2022. We were fortunate enough to get a game scheduled this year,” said Beaver Area Athletic Director Alan Alcalde.
Beaver Area and Ringgold compete in different sections, so their game at PNC Park will not affect either team’s standings in the WPIAL.
“It’s going to be a great game; we’re going to fight hard and beat Ringgold,” said player junior Jack Ray.
Spectators will enter at the Home Plate Gate, located at the corner of Mazeroski Way and General Robinson, and will be permitted to enter 30 minutes prior to their team’s scheduled game time.
Lower bowl seating, Sections 1-12 or 21-32 and Sections 101-132, will be available for free for spectators. Restrooms will be open in the Crow’s Nest Area of PNC Park, located behind Sections 105-108.
Concession stands will not be open; therefore, spectators should bring their own snacks and beverages, which fall in line with PNC Park’s outside food and beverage policy.
In addition to Beaver Area’s game against Ringgold, the Pittsburgh Pirates will be hosting “Beaver Night” Saturday, April 30 at PNC Park as the Pirates take on the San Diego Padres.
Outfield Grandstand tickets will be available for $20 with a portion from each ticket purchased benefiting Beaver Area High School Baseball.
“It’s not something that you get to experience every day when your high school team gets to play at a major league stadium,” said freshman Tyler Buzzard.
