Oh, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
The Christmas season is approaching fast—but wait, didn’t 2020 just start? As another year comes and goes, it’s time to add a little joy back into our COVID-contaminated lives.
Christmas music brings people serotonin. The feeling when the snow is falling, Christmas music is blasting, and you’re drinking a hot chocolate is something some people impatiently await all year. Although some people get a head start by listening to Christmas music as early as October, most people wait until after Thanksgiving, but some even listen to Christmas music all year round.
In an article posted by Good Housekeeping, they ranked 45 of the most popular Christmas songs. Some of them are by more modern artists, but classics still made the list. So if you’re looking for new songs to add to your Christmas playlist, here is their top 10.
- “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande—this song was considered an instant classic when it came out. Grande is “fed up with Santa for not pulling through all the time” in her 2014 hit.
- “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey—a classic that everyone knows and loves (well, maybe not everyone).
- “Like It’s Christmas” by the Jonas Brothers—this was the brothers’ first Christmas hit together after nearly a decade out of the spotlight when it was released last year. It’s a cheesy song about being so in love that every day feels like Christmas, but the Jonas Brothers never disappoint.
- “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber—it’s a song that has been around for several years and is said to get you up singing and dancing with your friends (over Zoom or at least masked and six feet apart).
- “8 Days of Christmas” by Destiny’s Child—a modern throwback guaranteed to get the Christmas party started, but don’t ask me what happened to the other four days.
- “My Gift Is You” by Gwen Stefani—was she talking about Blake Shelton when she wrote this song? It’s a song with a hidden message about choosing love over any Christmas present.
- “Snow in California” by Ariana Grande—yes, it’s really about her asking for it to snow in California (which, by the way, it does—just not in Southern California) but it’s enjoyable on any Christmas playlist.
- “Where Are You Christmas” by Faith Hill—a classic hit from the 2000 live action Dr. Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas soundtrack that everyone will sing along to.
- “Auld Lang Syne” by James Taylor—a rendition of the New Years Eve anthem, considered a “no-brainer” for your holiday playlist. And even grandma likes James Taylor.
- “Baby It’s Cold Outside” by Idina Menzel and Micheal Bublé—a duet of Bublé’s longtime classic hit. This song is perfect for Christmas karaoke with your family of friends . . . Well, maybe not with your dad; that’s creepy.
Apple Music and Spotify also have hundreds of ready-made holiday playlists for you to listen to anytime.
It’s time to end 2020 on a joyful note, so put on your Christmas playlist and start decorating! Happy Holidays!
