October 28 eight students represented the Beaver Area Music Department at the PMEA Honors Band Audition.

The audition was held at Westminster College this year.

Students had to practice, to the best of their musical abilities, difficult music that was to be judged during their auditions.

Beaver Area Band Director Mr. J.P. Scanga stated, “I am very proud of our students from Beaver Area who participated in the Honors Band audition in October. They each studied a challenging piece of solo music for their instrument and had to perform a portion of it for a panel of judges. I applaud them for taking advantage of this enrichment opportunity!”

The eight students from Beaver Area who participated were senior oboe player Owen Bowders, freshman flutist Lucy Cypher, junior French horn player Kaylee Seevers, freshman French horn player Christian Showvaker, sophomore percussionist Desmond Denny, sophomore tenor saxophonist Bobby DeLeon, sophomore euphonium player Ethan Tolbert, and sophomore baritone saxophonist Jason Godwin.

Four students qualified: Cypher, Seevers, Showvaker and Tolbert.

Seevers shared, “I believe this year the chosen audition music was fairly difficult and I’m proud of our students for going through the effort of preparing their audition piece and auditioning. Overall I think the event went great!”

Students who qualified will move on to the Honors Band Festival which will be held December 11-13.
