All good things must come to an end . . .
The girls’ soccer team fell short in the playoffs after an impressive season.
After finishing the season 15-1 and securing a share of the section title the girls were awarded the 3 seed in the playoffs and a first round match against Shadyside Academy.
October 22 the Bobcats would kickoff their championship campaign at home against Shadyside Academy. In a back and forth game that saw two great performances from both goalies including eight saves from junior Cali Coups, regulation play ended tied 0-0 requiring overtime.
In the first overtime period senior Sydney Chontos scored the game winning goal to secure the 1-0 victory and send the Bobcats through to the second round.
Next up for the Bobcats was a quarterfinal match where they hosted North Catholic October 26. After a tight first half the girls were tied 1-1 heading into the final 40 minutes.
In another back and forth game that saw opportunities from both sides North Catholic was able to notch a late goal in the game putting them up 2-1. That would be enough to knock off the Bobcats and end their season.
Despite the playoff loss, “The season went amazingly, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team for my senior year,” said senior Emerson Connelly.
The girls still had plenty to be proud about as they had six players named to the All-Section Team: freshman Mia Furda, juniors Ana Hahn and Coups, and seniors Connelly, Chontos, and Lilia Battalini.
In addition to the All-Section Team the Bobcats had four more girls named to the All WPIAL Team which were Hahn, Connelly, Chontos, and Battalini.
The boys also had two players named to the All-Section Team as well: sophomore Anthony Furda and junior Caleb Kullen. Junior Brayden Cosky received an honorable mention as well.
“We had a great season with many accomplishments but ultimately didn’t go as far as we wanted. The girls worked hard all season and earned a Section Title. Thank you to our seniors who helped us get to where we are today with the program,” said assistant coach Grant Mundy.
