Beaver Area girls softball slid into the season with a blowout against the Hopewell Vikings 15-0 in their home opener March 26.
For their second section game April 2 Bobcat softball won against North Catholic 13-2.
After these two big wins, the team traveled to the most magical place on earth: Disney World. They played teams from all over the country April 3 through April 7 for some additional spring training. They stayed at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
The girls went up against some tough competition, only winning two out of the three games. Their first game was a loss to David Crocket 8-4 April 4, the next day they lost to the same team with a closer score of 8-7 April 5. The last game the girls played against Beloit Memorial and won with a final score of 12-2 April 6.
“Getting to go to the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex was really fun and having the pitching circles be [shaped like] Mickey’s head was definitely something different than what I’m used too,” said junior pitcher Allie Teagle.
After just returning from Disney it didn’t take the team long to step back up to the plate; they won against Ellwood City 5-3 April 8.
Right now the team is working to win the section and have a better playoff run than they had last year which was quarterfinals.
“This year I’m trying to keep my batting average up and play solid in the field,” said sophomore Anna Blum.
The girls are being coached again this year by Amy Haggart.
“I believe our biggest challenge will be Avonworth this year,” said junior Lexi Russel.
Russel was right about Avonworth being a challenge; the girls lost the game with a score of 6-2 April 10.
Winning their first game of the season is definitely a good confidence booster going into the rest of the games! Now be sure to support the girls at their next home game (at Ellis Fields) today against Blackhawk. Batter up!
