Last weekend, December 7-8, the wrestling team traveled to Chartiers Houston high school for their season’s first tournament.
Friday some of the boys began the tournament getting weighed in at 3:15 p.m. while the other team members weighed in and competed Saturday at 9 a.m.
This tournament presented a challenge for the team with only two wrestlers placing: seniors George Peroni and Dom Reagan. Peroni earned fifth place and Reagan took fourth place.
Along with the seniors, first-year freshman wrestler Jack Ferguson pinned his opponent in his match. This was extremely impressive to the team seeing that Ferguson is a first-year wrestler.
Ferguson said, “It was fun and good because I didn’t have to wrestle for very long since I beat [my opponent] in the first round.”
Next in the tournament the boys faced Laurel but lost 45-36. Although it was a tough match Peroni, junior Alec Coulter, sophomore Brady Earhart, and Ferguson all pinned in their matches.
Unfortunately in this match Reagan suffered a concussion.
Coulter commented, “It was a disappointing loss, but things happen and we need to move on and get better.”
Next up, watch the boys wrestle at home against Ellwood City at home Wednesday December 19 at 7 p.m.
