The Tonys have returned for the 74th year, and with them so did the excitement for in-person Broadway shows. After a rough patch during COVID, live shows finally are returning to the stage.

This year’s awards show, hosted by Audra McDonald at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre, had many strong contenders in each category. In the category for best play, the winning production was “The Inheritance”, an expressive painting of life for LGBT people in the 21st century.

The best musical at the 2021 Tony’s was “Moulin Rouge! The Musical”. The jukebox musical is based on the 2001 film of the same name.

Andrew Burnap of “The Inheritance” took home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a leading role in a play. Mary-Louise Parker won the award for actresses in the same category for her role in the play “The Sound Inside”.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical was won by Adrienne Warren for her role of the titular character in “Tina—The Tina Turner Musical”.

The only nominee for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Aaron Tveit, won his first Tony Award for his role in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.”

While the night is made to celebrate theater and not fashion, there were several performers in outfits that stood out from the rest.

Jeremey Pope, known for his role in the popular television series Pose, stood out from the crowd in a monochromatic pink suit and turtleneck by Louis Vuitton.

LaChanze, attending in support of daughter Celia Rose Gooding, wore a wide-leg jumpsuit by Oyemwen Forbidden in a gorgeous green.

Lauren Patten—who, for her part in Jagged Little Pill, won the Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical—wore a bold black and white striped ensemble by Thom Browne that easily caught everyone’s eye.

Marissa Janet Winkour matched with the recurring theme of pink outfits many celebrities donned for the event in a velveteen mini dress.

Nicolette Robinson wowed the audience in a cream colored, tulle-layered gown by noted fashion designer Christian Siriano.
