Winter is here, and the cold weather welcomes back indoor semi-formal dances for Beaver Area High School students.
After not having an indoor dance at the school since February 2020, the winter dance will be the first dance in the school since before quarantine.
The winter dance will be held in the cafeteria February 5 from 7–10 p.m.
All tickets, which are $15, are sold in the cafeteria lunch periods five and six from January 20 to February 2. Students are permitted to pay in cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to “Beaver Area School District.”
Only 300 tickets will be sold, and tickets are first-come first-serve for high school students (sorry, middle school).
Benefiting the sophomore class, all ticket proceeds will go towards this year’s sophomore class prom and senior banquet funds.
“I’m very excited to get back to planning dances, especially since this one benefits our class. The more people who show up and buy tickets, the better off we will be our senior year. Plus it will be a blast,” stated sophomore class president Olivia St. Esprit.
St. Esprit also says to expect the winter dance to of course have a winter theme. Decorations will include snowflakes, twinkle lights, tiny Christmas trees, and accents of winter colors.
“We will also have the same DJ that we have used for dances in the past. He’s always been great, and I’m excited to see what he has planned for this dance,” stated St. Esprit.
“The DJs name is Norm Ely, and he actually owns the Bruster’s in Hopewell in addition to DJing! Another piece of fun info is that Miss [Beth] Spence will be there to take formal pictures of students using a nice winter backdrop,” explained sophomore class sponsor Miss Victoria Abbondanza.
“This will also be the first dance we have had in the school since February 2020, and the first high school dance since October 2019. And this is the first time the winter dance has included 9th grade students, as it only use to be 10th though 12th graders,” Miss Abbondanza also said.
Another big change is the outside-guest policy. Previously, students were told only seniors could bring a guest from outside of school, but this rule has been changed. Any student is able to bring an outside date as long as they fill out the guest form and submit it to the office no later than February 3.
Junior Kylee Podunavac exclaimed, “This will be my first dance at Beaver [Area], and I’m excited to participate and see what happens! IDK—LOL!”
