The Beaver Area girls soccer team is looking to build upon their success from last fall this season.
Last year the Bobcats finished with a 8-6-1 record and made the playoffs where they lost 2-1 in the first round in a tough battle at Freeport.
The girls opened up the season August 23 against Blackhawk where they got their first win of the season 7-0 being led by senior Sydney Chontos’s hat trick.
The Bobcats next game would be their first away game of the season with it being at Central Valley August 28. The girls picked up another win with a 3-0 victory to move to 2-0 on the year.
Up next for the Bobcats was a trip to Sewickley Academy in a non-section game that was suspended with 10 minutes left in the first half due to inclement weather.
At the time of the suspension the girls were leading 4-0 with Chontos netting another hat trick. The decision was made to drop the game and have it ruled as a no decision, so the girls did not get credit for what certainly would have been a win.
Following the no decision the girls were back home against Chartiers Valley September 3 where they picked up another win by the score of 6-0 being led by freshman Mia Furda’s two goals.
The girls’ biggest test of the season was up next when they would host powerhouse Avonworth September 9. In a hard fought match the Bobcats came out on top with a 1-0 win thanks to a Chontos goal in the first half.
The girls are off to a hot start this season so far, as they are currently 4-0 and have yet to let up a goal as keeper junior Cali Coups has kept a clean sheet in all four games.
“Even though the season is just getting started, I am really proud of the team chemistry we’ve built already. We are coming off a strong start to the season and we look to build on that every day,” said Chontos.
