The Beaver Bobcats are serving up a winning record this season.
The Bobcat tennis team is currently 2-1.
They lost their match against Central Valley March 27 but defeated both Ellwood City March 25 and Beaver Falls April 8 by a large margin.
There are only seven boys on the team this season with one senior.
Senior Ian McCarty-Cogis is a valuable member of the team along with juniors Heath Korsinsky, Zack Masters, and Gabe Forcella.
For the underclassmen, freshmen Aiden Desanzo and Sean Perez as well as sophomore Sam Good all represent Beaver Area.
The boys were supposed to travel to Riverside for their next match, April 11, but for the third time, this match was postponed due to flooding and inclement weather.
“The season is going pretty well. If we manage to get a win against Blackhawk then I think we will go far in the playoffs,” said Good.
The team will play against the Cougars in the coming weeks on an undetermined date due to so many postponements.
The team has already competed at the WPIAL tennis section tournament where no boys had placed. Masters, who is consistently the highest scorer of the team, played in the consolation third-place match and lost but still brought home a fourth-place finish for the Bobcats.
“It was pretty cool. I played against the guy who got second in the state so I got crushed, but overall it was a good experience,” said Masters.
The section doubles tournament is tomorrow, April 16. The team is relying on Good and McCarty-Cogis to perform at this match because this duo is the consistently best doubles team.
But perhaps one of the team’s biggest challenges begins today, April 15, as their home tennis courts, where the team has been practicing every day since the start of the season (weather permitting) will be closed for renovations.
The team is looking for a new practice location but is not certain where they are going to go.
The boys' tennis coach is our favorite former super sub and Chik-Fil-A manager Nate Heidengren.
