The 'C' in Chrismahanukwanzaakah must stand for class meeting.
After a decade-long tradition of holiday fun the day before break, there were some changes in the formula from prior festivities. The talent show was unfortunately cut from the schedule and replaced with class meetings hosted by Assistant Principal Grinich and Principal Murray.
The meetings were to remind students of the rules laid out in the student handbook that they may have forgotten by this point in the year. That being said, most of the presentation was about how students should not vape in the bathrooms (or anywhere, for that matter).
After the meetings came the 'HK' of CHK, which must stand for "fun and games" (maybe in Portuguese?).
From the very first event of dodgeball, it was abundantly clear that the juniors were there to win the day, which, by the time of the final event of tug o' war, they just barely did.
This is the first time in CHK history that the games have been won by a class other than the seniors.
Seniors managed to take their defeat in stride.
"We lost but we still had a lot of fun," said senior Sam Elliott.
In its ten years of existence, the seniors have won the competition portion of CHK every year, so the junior class' change of fortune was a major upset.
Junior Brady Hansen, who participated in most of the events of the day, was positively ecstatic coming out of the competition.
"I feel like I never broke my ACL," Hansen said of the victory and his personal football injury.
Student council members, who plan and host CHK, are already thinking of changes for next year's events.
"I wouldn’t confidently say that it’s getting cut, but [super-sized] soccer is probably finished. Other events had to be sacrificed to finish the games and it just doesn’t work," said junior and student council member Zane Kelley. "I personally would vote for doing away with it," he added.
But other popular events like dodgeball, holiday letter jumble, and the brand new scavenger hunt will likely remain.
Congratulations to the junior class and everyone who planned and participated in this year's events.
