No, the TVs in the hallway aren’t going to be streaming your favorite new Netflix shows.
If you returned to school after one weekend and there were multiple flatscreen TVs hanging in the hallway, no you weren’t hallucinating. One of the STAP program’s big projects for the year is installing ten TVs around the school to display information about sports teams, clubs, guidance information, etc.
“It was Mr. Shay’s (the STAP sponsor) idea last year, but with the situation we were in last year, we held off on this project until this school year,” said junior Payton Cutshall who is the STAP student in-charge of designing the presentations that will be displayed on the TVs.
There will be three TVs in the cafeteria, two in the middle school and JROTC hallway, and one in the athletic office, the STAP room, and near the high school office. Currently nine of the ten TVs are installed, but only four are currently presenting something.
“As of now, we only have to install the second JROTC TV,” shared Cutshall. “Our goal is to have it up as soon as possible, but once we purchase the TV, it’s not in our hands to install it.”
Beaver Area’s maintenance staff are installing the TVs when they can work it into their busy schedule.
Cutshall uses a website called Rise Vision to create the presentations. On the website, she is able to choose from a selection of templates ranging from sports, announcements, updates, holiday themed, and health and can also use a template for locations such as the gym, lab, hallway, etc. If there is not a template for the type of announcement she is looking for, Cutshall is able to create her own templates.
After the template is selected, Cutshall can add anything from Google slides, spreadsheets, or calendars to basic text and images and add the presentation to be displayed on all the TVs throughout the school.
Any student or staff member can send information to be displayed on the screen. All you have to do is email Cutshall (cutshallp@basd.k12.pa.us) with the following information: an explanation of what you would like presented, any information you would like typed, any pictures/videos, any widgets, the dates you’d like the presentation to be displayed, which TV’s you’d like the information displayed on (if not all), and any extra information.
“It’s super cool we got these new TV’s, and I think it’s great they are going to display new school information,” commented junior Jackson Vuckovich.
Be sure to check out the new TVs to keep up to date with sports, club, and activity news when you walk past one!
