What a streak to have—14 years of victory for the JROTC Drill Team!
March 4 the Drill Team hosted the annual Drill Competition to show off the routines they have been practicing for the past three months.
“It was a nerve-wracking and enlightening experience because it’s important to our battalion to not lose the winning streak,” said sophomore Emma Cunningham.
The boys and girls teams have been preparing in order to show that they are “The Razor’s Edge” which means their movements are quick and sharp. The team was able to execute their routines successfully not only by winning first all around, but also first in all routines across the board.
At the competition, Beaver Area competed against three other schools—Butler, Albert Gallatin, and Trinity.
Unarmed platoon was the first event to take the floor. The platoon consists of 12 girls and is called by senior Delaney Young. Platoon earned an overall winning score of 1,115 points.
The second routine to go was Armed Platoon. This routine was performed by the boys team with a group of 12 and included marching with rifles. Armed platoon was called by senior Austin Crawford. Their winning score was 1,086 points.
Platoon inspection was the third event and it was performed by the boys team. The event consisted of the judges asking questions to the platoon members while they were in formation. Inspection was called by sophomore Josh Dahma. The boys tied Butler with a perfect score of 500 points!
The fourth event was unarmed squad performed by the girls team. Squad is a bit smaller with eight members, and the girls team had enough participants for both an A and B squad. Junior Jordan Lohry called A squad while junior Sam Lindemann called B squad. Both teams tied with a perfect score of 855 points!
The fifth event was armed squad with a group of eight boys. Junior Eric Beighey called and got the team a winning score with 965 points.
“I was nervous leading up to the event, although afterwards I felt very relieved and proud of my squad—10 out of 10—would call again,” exclaimed Beighey.
The last scored event was the color guard competition where again Beaver Area had enough participants for both an A and B team. Junior Sam Anderson called A team while senior Austin Crawford called B team. The winner was A squad with 1080 points with B team finishing only nine points behind.
The Drill Competition ended with an unscored exhibition routine performed by the Bobcats. The routine was called by senior Daylon Seitz and the crowd was wowed since this was the first time Beaver Area has had an exhibition team.
To conclude the competition, everyone participated in a giant game of knockout which is like a giant game of JROTC Simon-Says.
