With the school year coming to an end, that also means the end of spring sports. The girls and boys track and filed teams both ended with a good season including seven individuals qualifying for WPIAL’s.
The seven members of the team that qualified for WPIAL’s are: Lilia Battalini (freshman) for triple jump; Ella Andrew (junior) for 1600m; Ana Avdellas (junior) for 100m hurdle; Krystof Purtell (senior) for 3200m and 4x800m; Adam Klenovich (senior) for 3200m and 4x800m; Eli Bechdel (sophomore) for 4x800m; and Tyler Biss (freshman) for 4x800m.
These seven competed at Slippery Rock University May 18 where Avdellas finished 16 in the 100m, the boys relay (Purtell, Klenovich, Bechdel, and Biss) placed 14, Battalini took 18 in the triple jump, Andrew placed 15 in the 1600m, Purtell finished 11, and Klenovich finished 13 both in the 3200m.
“I think that overall our track season went very well. The girls’ team ended up getting second in the section, and a lot of people had new PR’s. We all became really good friends which I think helped improve our team. We also had a few people qualify to WPIAL’s which is a really big deal since we’re in 3A this year,” stated sophomore Lizzy Michael.
“I feel like I had a very good season with a lot of friends and teammates. I can’t wait to come back stronger next year. I feel like we have all improved, and I think we can come back better next year,” stated sophomore Mia LaRose.
With so many team members setting new PR’s and with the individuals qualifying for WPIAL’s, the team deserves to be proud.
“As Coach Gallagher would say, ‘It’s not how hard you work, it’s how hard you want it,’” summarized sophomore Dom Bumblis.
