After a long period of uncertainty, Mr. Steve Wellendorf has officially resigned as principal of Beaver Area High School.
In a special session October 22, the Beaver Area school board voted to accept Mr. Wellendorf’s resignation thereby informing the public that Mr. Wellendorf is officially out as principal. This comes after nearly two months of uncertainty and speculation on whether he would return or not since his paid suspension earlier in August.
The board has still not publicized the specific reason for Mr. Wellendorf's suspension and subsequent resignation. However, in a press release, the board attempted to dispel any rumors about the reason for his resignation.
"Mr. Wellendorf acknowledges that the District's concerns did not relate to his religious beliefs, affiliations, or social opinions, nor were they the result of any personal animus directed by any District employee or School Board member. The District would like to assure the community that the concerns did not involve criminal allegations."
To compensate for Mr. Wellendorf's absence, Assistant Principal Meghan Murray has been appointed acting principal.
Middle school history teacher Mr. Chris Ortmann has been appointed Dean of Students, which is responsible for student discipline. (Middle School teaching assistant Mr. Grant Mundy will replace Mr. Ortmann in the classroom.)
