Despite early promise of a playoff run, the Lady Bobcats soccer season was cut too short.
But the team never hung their heads; they played to the end of every game and never gave up despite a string of tough losses.
Some people thought of this season as a rebuilding year, but the girls showed them they were not going down without a fight.
The team fought the Steel Valley Ironmen through nearly two ten-minute overtimes October 7. The girls unfortunately lost within the last few minutes of the second OT with the ending score of 1-0.
Two days later, October 9, the team traveled to Quaker Valley and went into another round of double overtime, again taking a heart-wrenching loss in the last minutes, 1-0.
“Going into the [QV] game we knew we had to win to move closer to a playoff spot. We ended up playing a pretty defensive game with only a few offensive opportunities, but we continued to push through the double overtime and never give up,” said sophomore Sara Majors.
The girls weren’t done yet as they hit the road again to take on the North Catholic Trojans October 12. The team held up their heads during the game despite falling 6-0.
The last game of the season was at home for the Lady Bobcats against the Hopewell Vikings October 14. Another troubling loss, but the team held their own throughout the game until the final buzzer sounded at a 4-0 defeat.
“The season went a lot better than I first expected; the girls played really well as a team and almost made playoffs,” said assistant coach Grant Mundy.
The returning Lady Bobcats already are fired up and ready to come out to compete again next season; keep an eye out for them.
“Next soccer season we will be ready; we will still go out and fight with everything we have. Even with the loss of our seniors we will come together as a family and play with humbleness,” promissed junior Maegan Martin.
See you next season.
