He’s at it again, folks. President Joe Biden has officially announced his 2024 bid for the White House.
The announcement came April 18 after months of speculation and rumor as to if the President would run again. Biden asked his voters to give him the chance to “finish the job,” whatever that means since he hasn’t done much to start the job.
One of the major concerns about his campaign of course is his age. The President is 82, and if he gets re-elected, he will be 86 by the end of his second term. However, it seems he believes that his more than 50 years of experience in politics will compensate for the concerns of his age.
As of right now, there are no serious challengers to the Democratic nomination, almost guaranteeing that the President will win the nomination once again. However, it will prove to be a tough race in the general election with the GOP lineup including former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and potentially Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (who has not yet officially announced his intention of running), any one of whom will put up a tough fight against the incumbent president.
Judging by his approval ratings (currently a shockingly low 40%), it is entirely possible that President Biden will not ultimately win the presidency for a second time.
So what platform is he running on? Similar to his previous bid, he will be running with the ideas of “rebuilding the middle class, capping the cost of insulin, expanding Medicaid, acting on climate change, increasing taxes on billionaires, strengthening antitrust enforcement, getting more affordable housing, funding universal pre-K, increasing vocational job opportunities, pushing for police reform and banning assault-style weapons,” reports NPR.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a thousand times again: is this really the best we can do? The Democratic Party should be ashamed that this old, mumbling man is their best hope for the White House. Sure, he’s the incumbent president, but that doesn’t mean he’s qualified nor capable for the job. He clearly hasn’t proven his capabilities and competence these last three years, with incidents varying from failing to read a teleprompter to plunging our economy into a state of near recession to somehow managing to fall up a flight of stairs.
Four years of Joe Biden as president may be all this country can handle, so why are we trying to give him more time to dig us even deeper into a hole?
Remember when you’re at the polls, choose your candidate wisely, folks: the country is depending on it.
