It’s that time of year again. Love is in the air, flowers everywhere, and why is Mr. Hanlon getting out his boombox?
Oh wait—it’s Vectortines Day.
If you don’t know what Vectortines Day is, it’s a yearly celebration for the physics students when we celebrate vectors: an object with both magnitude and direction.
Physics teacher Mr. Jim Hanlon tasks the students to bring in Vectortine’s Day cards, vector themed treats, and prepare a creative presentation for the class. As students are gathered and eating their treats, Mr. Hanlon does his annual song where he picks out a hit song from the year and gives it a Vectortine’s twist.
As a first-time Vectortine’s attendee, I decided to utilize my artsy fartsy side to draw Mr. Hanlon as Cupid. As for my treats and Vectortine’s cards, I made chocolate chip cookies with icing arrows and homemade Vectortine’s decorated with stickers.
As for some other students in my class, there were performances of slam poetry, interpretive dance, scrapbook pages, garlands, and more.
“We were happy we had the opportunity to express our passion about vectors creatively,” said senior Sophie Burd.
And as for this year’s song, some students had a hunch knowing Mr. Hanlon’s love for the artist. This year, Mr. Hanlon did a rendition of “Hot to Go” by Chappell Roan, but incorporated his love for vectors.
Many students recorded his performance and uploaded it to social media. In fact, if you search up Vectortine’s on Google, you can find Mr. Hanlon’s Vectortine’s songs each year (my personal favorite is his vector version of “Party Rock” by LMFAO).
As our hearts were full with love for vectors and our stomachs were full from all of the treats we consumed, I would say this Vectortine’s Day was another success.
