And they’re off! January rehearsals are finished and the February calendar is out. It’s time to start counting down the days until opening night (to an extent) of this year’s musical: The Drowsy Chaperone.
Thanks to Mrs. Heather West, the main choreographer, with help from the student choreographers seniors Alyssa Caldwell and Charlotte Shultz along with junior Mary Berenbrok, the cast was able to learn one of their dance numbers in an hour—which doesn’t seem like a big feat, but when you have a cast of almost 80 and most of them haven't danced in a studio in their lives, it definitely is.
“I enjoy learning choreography,” states senior Hailey Zeigler, “And I can’t wait to perform in March!”
Towards the end of January the cast began costuming. This year some cast members aren't happy with their costumes claiming “[they don’t] look right.”
However, this year’s musical is set in the 1920s, so the costumes are supposed to match what people were wearing 100 years ago. Almost the full cast now has their costumes for the musical.
“I’m actually happy with my costume this year,” exclaims senior Amanda Moldovan, “ Maybe it’s because I am not in the ensemble and get to wear [a different costume]!”
Another pre production milestone was achieved when cast photos were taken January 30. These are the photos that will appear in the program and the personal photos displayed in the auditorium lobby. (And is it just me or is it always fun to look through the program at all the ads, senior photos, and full cast photos?)
Get excited for all the activities to come when March hits. Make sure to buy your tickets to see your fellow classmates put on The Drowsy Chaperone March 14-16.
