The season may be over for the Beaver Area Bobcats football team; however, the recognition of all their hard work is far from over.
November 19, the opposing 4A Parkway Conference coaches voted on the best of the best for offense, defense, and special team for first team, second team, and honorable mention.
Two of your very own Beaver Bobcats were voted onto the First Team All-Conference: seniors Mackenzie Boyd as placekicker and Tyler Ziggas as defensive back.
“Making first team was a huge accomplishment for myself. I wanted to thank all the coaches in the section who’ve nominated me for this recognition. Lastly, I wanted to thank all my teammates and coaches who’ve supported and pushed me to be a successful player at my position. I wish the best of luck to the team next season. Thank you for making my senior year of football a lifetime memory . . . #7 signing off,” stated Ziggas about recognition.
According to sources in the WPIAL and local high school sports reporters, Boyd is only the second female ever to be nominated into the First Team All-Conference category. The first female nominated in the early 2000s was Stephanie Weimer of Serra Catholic in McKeesport.
The Bobcats had a few players make Second Team All-Conference as well. This includes seniors Scott Wilson as offensive center, Joey Hammel as tight end, and juniors Wyatt Ringer as running back and Jake Hilton as inside linebacker.
“I really feel proud that the opposing coaches voted me in; I hope to get higher next year. But I’m really looking forward to next year and our season as a team,” stated Ringer.
“It’s not what I hoped to get, but I’m honored and blessed to have been nominated by some respected coaches. It’s a great achievement to show for the hard work I put in over the summer,” explained Wilson.
Finally, five Bobcats were recognized in the Honorable mention category: seniors James Finch as wide receiver, Anthony George as defensive end, Jaydin Sallis as a defensive linemen, Keegan Wise as offensive tackle, and junior Mason Lang as outside linebacker.
“It felt great for the hard work to pay off. Obviously, I wanted better, but it’ll be great motivation for the off season, working for first team. I wouldn’t be able to do it without my teammates,” expressed Lang.
The Bobcats are planning on having a great season next fall. With a new (as yet unnamed) head coach, the Bobcats will do all they can to ensure a successful season next year.
